About Iudas Thaddaeus

Apostle Iudas (Jude) Thaddaeus was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. He is often confused with Jude Iscariot. The mother of Iudas Thaddaeus was Maria Kleofe, who is believed to have been a close relative to Jesus's mother, Maria. The brother of Iudas Thaddaeus is probably the younger apostle James.
According to tradition, Iudas Thaddaeus preached the gospel in Edessa, Mesopotamia, in the region of the Tiger and Euphrates rivers. He died a martyr's death around 80, presumably buried in Jerusalem.
Together with the apostle Simon, the church celebrates him on October 28. He is the patron saint of those in desperate situations.
